Delaware Sikh congregation celebrates the opening of new center near Red Lion
Congregants bowed as the Sikh book of scriptures left the crowded sanctuary at the conclusion of worship Sunday. In a separate room, adherents placed it on a platform and covered it with a cloth.
With care and reverence, the Sikh Center of Delaware this summer moved the volume of sacred writings, the Guru Granth Sahib, from the congregation’s old building in Elsmere to a new home, orgurdwara, near Red Lion.
The gurdwara hosts weekly worship and other festivities sacred to Sikhism, a mystical religion dating to 15th-century India.
